Stichting Muses signifies `inspiration source` and was founded in 2007 by Jurrien Mammen and Romy Schagen. In 2006 they met each other in Guatemala. Romy had held a fundraising within her own network before heading out to Guatemala and hence collected €850 for her project. Due to her money raising she was of great value to the project and the locals. However, both Jurrien and Romy felt other voluntary workers were unprepared and unaware on how they could offer effective help. As a result they decided to focus Stichting Muses on preparing voluntary workers. They put together their own and other voluntary workers’ experiences, creating a professional and interactive workshop to initiate awareness within voluntary workers for sustainable voluntary work.
